Big Bundesliga Dates to Remember in 2022-23 Schedule

countdown banner

The complete schedule for the 2022-23 Bundesliga campaign has been released. This season will be a unique one with World Cup 2022 sandwiched in between.

Nevertheless, the German top flight should still serve up its usual dose of drama and excitement, especially in the big games.

And so you don’t miss any of the action, SBOTOP has listed down the dates to remember in the 2022-23 Bundesliga season.

Tough starts for Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund

The new season will officially kick off on Friday, Aug 15, with 10-time defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich taking on reigning Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt.

Needless to say, this fixture will be quite a tricky one for Julian Nagelsmann’s side, especially since they could very well be without superstar striker Robert Lewandowski, who has made his intention to leave quite clear.

Moreover, Frankfurt have played Bayern quite tough in recent years. The Eagles handed Bayern their first defeat of the season last year as they won 2-1 at the Allianz Arena.

Borussia Dortmund will welcome Bayer Leverkusen to Signal Iduna Park to kick off their new Bundesliga campaign

Meanwhile, it will also be a tough start to the season for Borussia Dortmund, who will host third-placed Bayer Leverkusen at Signal Iduna Park.

The two matches between the two sides were among the most action-packed in the Bundesliga. After Dortmund beat Leverkusen 3-4 away in one of the games of the season, Leverkusen returned the favour with a 5-2 thumping of BVB at Signal Iduna Park.

Returning Dortmund coach Edin Terzic will no longer have Erling Haaland at his disposal, so he must make sure the BVB defence do a better job of keeping the prolific Leverkusen attack – led by the prolific Patrik Schick – in check.

Revierderby returns to list of Bundesliga rivalries

Der Klassiker is the biggest match on the Bundesliga calendar every season, and while it has been a bit one-sided in recent years (Bayern have won the last seven in a row), there is great drama and quality every time Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund meet. The two German giants are set to meet on Matchday 9 (Oct. 7-9) and Matchday 26 (Mar. 31-Apr. 2), and both are can’t-miss matches.

But as compelling as Der Klassiker is, it does not quite have the same level of passion and emotion as the Revierderby between Borussia Dortmund and fierce rivals Schalke, which will make its much-awaited return to the Bundesliga after the Royal Blues earned promotion back to the top flight.

The two sides will collide for the first time on Matchday 7 (Sept. 16-18) at Signal Iduna Park, then meet at the Veltins-Arena on Matchday 24 (March 10-12).

The Bundesliga also features a number of other derbies, including the Berlin derby between Union and Hertha, as well as the Rhine derby between Borussia Monchengladbach and Koln. However, the Revierderby is on a different level given the years of animosity between the clubs.

Schalke still have some way to go to reach Dortmund’s level of quality. But anything can happen in derbies, and Schalke will be especially motivated to mark their first season back in the top flight with a couple of good Bundesliga 2022 results in the Revierderby.

Bayern-Leipzig bookends post-World Cup schedule

The Bundesliga 2022 betting odds have Bayern as favourites to win an unprecedented 11th consecutive Bundesliga title. However, RB Leipzig could be the team that could finally end the Bavarians’ run of dominance.

After some early-season struggles under Jesse Marsch, the Red Bulls returned to form under Domenico Tedesco as they still finished in the Champions League places.

Since Tedesco’s appointment in December, only Bayern scored more points in the Bundesliga than Leipzig during that 20-game stretch. With Christopher Nkunku enjoying an amazing breakout season, the hope is that Leipzig can finally mount a legitimate title challenge.

Although, it will still take a lot to knock Bayern off their perch. Even if Robert Lewandowski gets his wish to leave, Bayern still have quite a formidable squad. They already have Liverpool’s Sadio Mane lined up to help ease the potential loss of Lewandowski, and they still have a terrific array of attacking midfielders that can score loads of goals.

After meeting in the German Supercup, the two sides will meet for the first time in the league in January to headline the return of the Bundesliga from the World Cup break. And the two clubs will face off again in the penultimate round of the season, hopefully with the title still on the line, so be sure not to miss any of their massive matchups this season.
