Bundesliga: Testing times for Werder and Wolfsburg

Werder Bremen vs Wolfsburg

When two sides meet in the Sunday lunchtime kick-off at the Weser Stadion, both will be keen to impress for very different reasons.

Bundesliga: Werder Bremen vs Wolfsburg could be a pivotal game in either side’s season. Before a ball was kicked back in August, pundits didn’t expect these two teams to be far apart, having finished sixth and eighth last term.

Both were expected to be challenging for a Europa League place again, but while Die Wolfe are up there in sixth position, with five games to play Die Werderaner are deep in the relegation mire.

They are currently in possession of the final European spot but Wolfsburg are level on points with seventh placed Hoffenheim, and while another place might become available, SC Freiburg and Hertha Berlin are also in the hunt.

A win would cement Die Wolfe’s position while digging a deeper hole for Bremen.

Talking Points

Home woes for Werder

Hoping to build on a morale-boosting victory away to Schalke last weekend, Bremen headed home for a relegation six-pointer against Eintracht Frankfurt, but they fluffed their lines and horribly.

Midfield maestro Davy Klaassen was denied an early goal by Frankfurt keeper Kevin Trapp, before striker Andre Silva put the Die Verderaner to the sword.

The four-time Bundesliga winners weren’t in the pre-season SBOBET tips for relegation. in fact, they were nowhere near but now they are in real danger, mainly due to their shocking home form.

Their record at the Weser Stadion reads 1-3-10 and that is surely relegation form, but despite their most recent setback they are still only two points from a play-off spot and three from safety.

They have the players to climb out of trouble. Klaassen is indeed a class act, at 27 and in the prime of his career you wouldn’t expect the Dutch international to be in a struggling side, nor would Die Werderaner fans who watched their side finish comfortably in 8th place last season.

Head coach Florian Kohfeldt has other players he can rely on. Midfielder Milot Rashica has seven goals and six assists, while commanding Finnish defender Niklas Moisander leads the team from the back.

Die Werderaner just need to learn how to win at home… and quickly.

Wolfsburg happier on the road

So if you can’t buy a win at home, you really don’t want to come up against a team which enjoys travelling.

Die Wolfe devoured an excellent Bayer Leverkusen side 1-4 recently, but they followed that up with a defeat at home.

A game against free-falling Eintracht Frankfurt looked like a chance for Wolfsburg to press on but they lost it 1-2, a result which clearly gave Frankfurt a boost before they met Werder.

Prior to the Leverkusen win, a home defeat to BVB followed an away win at Augsburg. Head coach Oliver Glasner needs his team to find consistency to nail down a European place.

Wout Weghorst has been such a key man for Wolfsburg over the past two seasons and is leading scorer this term with 11 goals, but he is struggling to find his shooting boots since returning to the side from injury.

But Glasner has been able to rely on the all-round attributes of Max Arnold to break up opposition moves and launch attacks for Wolfsburg. He is creative and destructive in equal measure, with eight assists and eight yellow cards to his name this season.

History

The hosts have the edge in the last 50 head to head Werder Bremen vs Wolfsburg results, winning 24 and drawing nine, while losing 17.

In December, Bremen stunned Wolfsburg with a 2-3 win at the Volkswagen Arena. Rashica helped himself to a brace, including an 83rd minute goal to win the match while Weghorst was on target for the hosts.

In fact, Die Werderaner have won the last six meetings, though Wolfsburg won the previous six.

Betting Tips

??
Werder Bremen vs VfL Wolfsburg Under 2.50 goals @ 1.96
June 7, 19:30 (GMT+8)

Werder Bremen have been awful at home, while Wolfsburg are strong on the road, so that should be enough to inform my Werder Bremen vs Wolfsburg predictions.

But I’m not so sure. Since the return of the Bundesliga home and away form seem to have gone out of the window and the hosts might be able to play more freely in an empty stadium.

Werder are at 3.55 to win, with the draw at 3.30 and Wolfsburg are available at 2.06.

It’s sure to be a hard fought contest and for an alternative bet, 2-3 goals at 1.90 is a good option, while 1-1 is the most likely score line at odds of 6.00.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
