Bundesliga: FC Bayern on Cloud Nine!

countdown banner

Bayern Munich claimed a ninth successive Bundesliga title in sensational fashion, with a 6-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach, as Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick.

It’s die Bayern’s 30th Bundesliga title since the introduction of the top division in 1963, and after Mainz delayed the Bavarian’s celebrations with a stunning 2-1 win last week, there was no stopping Hansi Flick’s champions on Saturday as they destroyed Borussia Monchengladbach to win the title in style.

Elsewhere the race for the Champions League places heated up as Borussia Dortmund saw off Red Bull Leipzig and nerves are shredding at the bottom end of the table as the relegation fight promises to reach a dramatic climax.

Lewandowski is on another planet

The Bundesliga 2021 betting odds have backed a Bavarian win for months and the main reason for that, of course, is that FC Bayern have the best striker in world football on their books. Robert Lewandowski has been unstoppable again.

The lethal Pole has stormed the Golden Boot after scoring yet another hat-trick in Bayern’s decimation of die Fohlen. He’s taken his tally to a colossal 39 goals, 14 clear of Eintracht’s Andre Silva and Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland. Lewandowski took just two minutes to get off the mark and completed his hat-trick with a spectacular volley and a second half penalty. And now he’s just one goal shy of the legendary Gerd Muller’s record of 40 league goals in a season, and with two games left Lewandowski has a clear run at another amazing achievement.

Die Bayern finished with ten men after Tanguy Nianzou saw red on 75 minutes, but the rout was completed by Thomas Muller, Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane.

Lewandowski’s right hand man, Muller, has proved what a brilliant foil he is for the Bundesliga’s top scorer, he’s made 17 assists during the campaign and leads that list, six ahead of Monchengladbach’s Jonas Hofmann and, along with David Alaba, he has registered a record tenth league title.

Three way battle for Champions League

Second placed Red Bull Leipzig have already secured their 2021/22 Champions League place, but on Saturday they failed to derail Borussia Dortmund’s top four push. The two sides are due to meet on the DFB Pokal Final but on Saturday die Scwarzgelben put down a marker with a win over Leipzig in a five goal thriller. Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho put BVB in charge, before Red Bull roared back with second half goals from Lukas Klostermann and Dani Olmo. But Dortmund kept the faith and were rewarded when Sancho stabbed home from close range to take three priceless points.

And that gave Edin Terzic’s team fourth place, which they held on to when Eintracht Frankfurt drew with Mainz on Sunday afternoon. Frankfurt missed their chance to return to the top four, drawing at home to Mainz, but it could have been worse as the visitors led from the 11th minute when Karim Onisiwo put them ahead, until the 85th minute when Ajdin Hrustic took a pass form Silva and smashed his shot high into the top right corner to snatch a point.

Wolfsburg tightened their grip on third place while putting a dent in FC Union Berlin’s Europa League hopes with a convincing 3-0 victory thanks to a superb hat-trick from Josip Brekalo. The 22 year old Croatian midfielder hit a long range screamer into the top corner on just 12 minutes, added another with a fierce strike on 63 minutes and made it three with a cool finish on 89 minutes.

With Bayern and Red Bull already qualified, there are two Champions League places up for grabs; die Wolfe are in a strong position with 60 points, BVB have 58 and Eintracht have 57. With two more rounds of Bundesliga 2021 results it’s all to play for, so keep an eye on the SBOTOP odds and previews as this race for the top four looks set to go down to the wire.

Dortmund must hold on to fourth place to keep their prize jewels

At the start of the season Borussia Dortmund probably didn’t expect to be fighting for a top four place with just two games remaining, but that’s where they are and it is critical they hold on to their fourth place. Clubs are already circling with four European outfits keeping tabs on Sancho, while Erling Braut Haaland is one of the hottest properties in world football. Amidst rumours that the 20 year of Norwegian was prepared to leave Dortmund should die Schwarzgelben fail to qualify for the Champions League the club has reportedly slapped a 150M Euro price tag on their man.

BVB could lose both if they slip up over the next two weeks.

Relegation fears haunt five strugglers

FSV Mainz are up to 12th place after their impressive run continued with a draw away to high flying Frankfurt and they are looking good to confirm their survival. With Schalke already relegated, five teams are trying to avoid the 16th and 17th places occupied by Bielefeld on 31 points and Koln on 29. 13th placed Augsburg have 33 points, while Hertha Berlin and Werder Bremen on 31 are ahead of Bielefeld on goal difference alone.

The stress is getting to Koln who lost 4-1 at home to Freiburg, Bremen drew at home to Bayer Leverkusen, and Augsburg lost to Stuttgart on Friday night.

With Hertha and Bielefeld meeting on Sunday evening a win for either would be priceless.

The pressure at the bottom of the table is always the highest, while the plaudits go to the big guns and, once again FC Bayern.
