Bundesliga Big Guns Compete for Players

countdown banner

The return to action of the Bundesliga this weekend has ignited enthusiasm in the football world. Safety is the top priority and we all hope the German league makes a full recovery. Maybe the rest of Europe can follow on after.

In the meantime, there is a return to normal service in Germany and the Bundesliga 2020 betting odds tell us that the title will be decided between FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. And all three of these giants are at the centre of transfer speculation, with possible incomings and outgoings in the news.

Is Sane finally set for Bayern?

FC Bayern are bullish about the prospect of bringing Manchester City’s unsettled winger Leroy Sane to the Allianz Arena. The 24-year-old Germany international came close to the move last summer, but he suffered a nasty knee injury in pre-season and that put an end to the switch.

Reports now suggest the Bavarians are preparing to table a knockdown £35m bid to seal the deal and, at that price, if Sane can stay fit, he would be a steal. He is big friends with Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka and that could swing the deal in the Bavarian’s favour.

But Manchester City are reported to be unimpressed by the £35m suggested fee and there’s clearly more work to be done.

BVB searching for Sancho Mark 2

Dortmund have a fighting chance to win the Bundesliga this season, but if they do fall short they will be keen to hold on to their prize asset.

England winger Jadon Sancho has been in sparkling form in his second full season at Signal Iduna Stadium, scoring 14 goals at 129 minutes per strike, and making 15 assists.

Speculation around the future of the 20-year-old is likely to reach fever pitch before long! His current contract at Dortmund expires in 2020, though the club expects him to stay for another season.

Sancho has been tracked by Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona, but Dortmund have said they will only sell if the deal works for both the club and player, with a price tag likely to be in excess of £100m.

The BVB board is already planning for the future, though, and reports have emerged that they are considering a move for Chelsea starlet Charlie Webster. The 16-year-old midfielder is an England youth player and Chelsea Under-18s, and Dortmund have an eye on him as an eventual replacement for Sancho.

Webster emerged as the most promising player in the Blues’ academy and received a spectacular endorsement from Kevin De Bruyne when he impressed in the KDP Cup last year, competing with young stars from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

RB Leipzig already know that Timo Werner wants to leave the Bundesliga club this summer

Leipzig’s fight to hang on to Timo

Former BVB boss Jurgen Klopp will be watching the Bundesliga closely this weekend to see how the resumption progresses. His Liverpool side is desperate to complete the Premier League season and win a first title in 30 years.

But he’ll also have an eye on some of the German league’s top talents, including RB Leipzig hot shot Timo Werner.

The 24-year-old German international has scored 21 goals this season, bettered only by Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski, and he is the club’ most valuable asset. Klopp has been a long-time admirer of Werner and the Merseyside club is in the market for fresh blood up front, and reports have emerged that he could be available for £43m.

Leipzig are fighting to keep their star though, apparently using the example of Naby Keita’s move to Anfield to discourage Werner. The Guinean midfield enforcer moved to Liverpool in a £53m deal back in 2018, but he has struggled to make an impact, used as a squad player appearing in cup competitions.

But Red Bull boss Ralf Rangnick has said a move to Liverpool might suit Werner so there may be some mileage in this one.

The eyes of the world will be on the German League this weekend, and Werner will surely be in the spotlight. Leipzig are at home to SC Freiburg and, here at SBOBET, we’re offering 2.01 on a home win with a -1.50 goal handicap.

And rest assured; we’re all set for the big kick-off on Saturday and will be right here with all the Bundesliga 2020 updates and results as they roll in.
