Bundesliga: Bayern’s Title is in Touching Distance

Bayern Munich vs Borussia Monchengladbach

Number eight is on the way make no mistake about that, and FC Bayern could collect the league title, which they have held since 2013 by Saturday night.

Bayern vs Monchengladbach is the big Bundesliga match of the weekend and quite simply, if Bayern wins at the Allianz Arena and Borussia Dortmund slip up away to Fortuna Dusseldorf, then the celebrations will begin in Bavaria.

The SBOBET odds say both the top two teams will win, so the wait is likely to go on for another week.

Meanwhile, visitors Monchengladbach are in need of a lift after a sketchy return to football, which has left their own top four place in jeopardy.

Talking Points

Gnabry’s chance to shine

The big pre-match Bayern vs Monchengladbach news concerns more on who won’t be playing rather than who will.

The league leaders’ strike duo Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller were both booked during Bayern’s victory over Bayer Leverkusen last week, so both players will be on the sidelines for this big game.

Take a look at the latest Bundesliga stats and you’ll see what a dent that makes in Bayern’s attack.

Lewandowski has 30 goals in the league while Muller has made 20 assists, both way ahead of the competition. So head coach Hansi Flick will need to look elsewhere for goals on Saturday.

The responsibility will be on the shoulders of Serge Gnabry who has scored 12 goals and made ten assists so far this season.

Despite his figures being overshadowed by Lewandowski this is an impressive return, and the 24-year-old is improving season by season. He exploded onto the international stage scoring 13 goals in 13 games for Germany and is a man for the big occasion.

Die Fohlen’s three-way shoot-out

Monchengladbach need a lift after losing away to SC Freiburg the last time out, a result which has left them with a lot to do over the final four games.

With two wins, two defeats and a draw since the return, it has left die Fohlen hanging on to fourth spot – above Leverkusen on goal difference only and trailing Red Bull Leipzig who have a difficult trip to Hoffenheim this weekend.

Leverkusen heads to struggling Schalke on Sunday, so Monchengladbach could do with avoiding defeat at the Allianz Arena to keep the pressure on.

Head coach Marco Rose has put together an attacking side, and 22-year-old Frenchman Marcus Thuram has had an impressive first season at Borussia Park.

He’s scored ten goals and made seven assists and alongside joint top scorer Alassane Plea, he could cause problems for the Bayern defence which has looked vulnerable at times.

But Rose will need to organise his own defence well as even without their two main strikers, Bayern will have plenty of firepower.

History

The champions have had the better of the head-to-heads. In the 56 games played since 1992, Bayern leads by 26 to 14 victories and there have been 16 draws.

Monchengladbach won the last meeting in December, but what a difference we see in the table since then.

Die Fohlen ran out 2-1 winners in a dramatic clash which put them in top place after 14 games, while Die Bayern languished down in seventh place.

Ivan Perisic had put Bayern ahead but Ramy Bensebaini planted a header in to draw the sides level and when Thuram drew a late penalty, Bensebaini drove home the penalty.

That meant Bayern had lost two consecutive games under Hansi Flick, who was still interim boss at that stage. But 16 games later, he has guided his team to within touching distance of the title with 14 points ahead of Die Fohlen.

Monchengladbach won 0-3 at the Allianz Arena in the 2018/19 season with an opening goal from Plea.

Can they possibly do it again?

Betting Tip

??
Bayern Munich vs Borussia Monchengladbach Over 3.50 goals @ 2.00
June 14, 00:30 (GMT+8)

The latest Bayern vs Monchengladbach betting odds say not, pitching the hosts at

1.36 to win! The draw is at 5.20 and Monchengladbach at 7.20 to win, and while that is tempting, it’s hard to bet against a side unbeaten in 16 and on a winning streak of 11.

But surely there will be goals in this game. These two teams have scored 147 between them this season, Bayern plundering 90 goals from 30 games – a new Bundesliga record.

Gladbach are the fourth highest scorers in the league with 57, and I expect both teams to score on Saturday. I’m backing four goals or more and for a long shot bet, 2-2 is available at odds of 18.00.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
