NBA: Warriors Lit Kings up, as KAT Introduces Himself to New York

Earlier today, the Golden State Warriors showed off their new look en route to beating the Sacramento Kings away from home, 122-112.

It was a much better performance overall compared to their 91-90 win over the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA preseason earlier this week.

Buddy Hield and Stephen Curry led the way as the Warriors’ red-hot shooting drowned out the DeMar DeRozan, De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis-led Kings

In other NBA 2024 news, Karl-Anthony Towns has finally made his debut as a New York Knicks player, balling out in the ‘Big Apple’ and showing why fans at the Garden ought to be happy about the trade.

It was an exciting day of hoops, and I, for one, cannot wait for the regular season to begin.

But for now, come join us at SBOTOP in unpacking the latest highlights and results.

Buddy Hield is no Klay Thompson, but he’ll do

There are still plenty of Warriors fans that are mourning the departure of Klay Thompson. Well, can you blame them? The man is one of the best shooters to have ever touched a basketball and had helped the Bay Area clinch four NBA titles during his time with the squad.

But all good things must come to an end. And although the Warriors of today are a far cry from the dynasty of the yesteryear, they are still a bunch of deadeyes from deep.

With a total of 28 three-point shots made, the Warriors just set their personal best in three-pointers scored in a game, surpassing their former record of 27.

As expected, Hield and Curry led the way, combining with nine three-pointers and 35 points.

De’Anthony Melton and Jonathan Kuminga were also on fire, notching four three-point baskets and 16 points apiece.

Lindy Waters III continued his good preseason run, following his 15 points and five three-pointers against the Clippers last time out.

The 6-foot-6 swingman out of Oklahoma State finished with nine points on 3-5 shooting from beyond the arc.

Out of all the shooters on display, Buddy Hield was the one who shone the brightest.

With 22 markers (6-7 from deep), the 31-year-old sharpshooter showed flashes that whilst he may not replicate Klay Thompson, he’s a different monster altogether.

For the Kings, DeMar DeRozan led the way with 15 points on 6-6 from the field, whilst Domantas Sabonis, Malik Monk and De’Aaron Fox all finished in double digits as well.

KAT outmuscles Washington

Karl-Anthony Towns made his debut for the Knicks in their NBA preseason clash versus the Wizards
New York Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns dribbles the ball to the basket against Washington Wizards’ Richaun Holmes

Towns’ trade to New York sent shockwaves throughout the league, with a lot of discussions centring around just which team won the trade.

And with his monstrous double-double performance against the Washington Wizards, it’s hard to dispute the fact that the Knicks might’ve been the likely winners in the exchange.

The four-time All-Star dominated the game with 25 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and two blocks as the Knicks destroyed the Wizards, 117-94.

Jalen Brunson chipped in 23 points on 7-10 shooting, whilst Cameron Payne, Tyler Kolek and Mikal Bridges all scored 14, 15 and 16 points, respectively.

After the game, Towns mentioned the different feeling of playing at home.

“It definitely hits different to be home. Been a blessing to be here. I’m excited for all the games I get to play in front of these fans.”

Despite only making one out of his seven attempts from the three-point area, Towns showed what he could contribute as an elite three-level scorer and a defensive presence.

His addition to the Knicks greatly boost their NBA 2024 odds of making another deep run in the postseason.

Wembanyama, CP3 connection is a scary sight to see

Imagine perhaps the greatest talent to ever grace an NBA floor. Now pair him with one of the best floor generals in history.

Well, we had a glimpse of what to expect as the duo took centre stage in the San Antonio Spurs’ 107-97 win over the Orlando Magic.

Despite the limited minutes Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul played, the chemistry and connection were there, albeit of course, more time is needed in order for the pair to truly flourish.

The highlight of the night came in the first quarter, when Paul threw a lob and Wembanyama effortlessly dunked the ball over Mo Wagner.

The Spurs had a slow start, trailing by as much as 16 points in the opening quarter.

Prized rookie Stephon Castle also stole the show, finishing with a team-high 17 points.
