NBA: Two Unicorns Set to Lock Horns in Oklahoma City

countdown banner

After four weeks since their first NBA meeting, Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren will finally meet for their first-ever in-season (let alone regular season) matchup in what will be a battle of two up-and-coming teams, the Spurs and the Thunder.

The Thunder have had a mixed bag of NBA 2023 results as of late, but they are in the Top 5 in the Western Conference standings. The same can’t be said for the Spurs, though, because they’re in the bottom half and are in a slump.

Elsewhere, the Hornets, Pistons, Sixers, Nets, Pelicans, Jazz, Nuggets, Warriors, and Lakers are going to host the Heat, Hawks, Pacers, Magic, Mavericks, Blazers, Clippers, Timberwolves, and Grizzlies, respectively, and SBOTOP is here to preview some of the top matches tomorrow.

Indiana Pacers @ Philadelphia Sixers

The Sixers are the most in-form team today, and they are keen on extending their winning streak to nine straight games and two in East Group A.

Since trading James Harden to the Clippers, the Sixers have leaned heavily on Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, and they’ve delivered. Embiid is averaging 32.4 points, 11.7 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game, while Maxey is averaging 28.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per contest.

Philadelphia ended Indiana’s three-game losing streak on Sunday, as Maxey and Embiid combined for a whopping 87 points in their 137-126 victory, with the former recording his first career 50-point game.

In the losing effort, Tyrese Haliburton had 25 points and 17 assists, while Myles Turner, Buddy Hield, and Obi Toppin recorded 22, 16, and 14 points, respectively.

San Antonio Spurs @ Oklahoma City Thunder

The Spurs (0-1) and the Thunder (0-2) have a chance to finally get into the win column in West Group C tomorrow. But the NBA 2023 odds favour the hosts to win because they have a better roster and form.

OKC are fresh from a 111-99 win against the Suns, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams combined for 66 points, while Chet Holmgren recorded 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.

San Antonio, meanwhile, despite having six double-digit scorers, lost their fifth game in a row with a 118-113 defeat against the shorthanded Heat on Sunday.

Victor Wembanyama’s counting stats are great, at 19.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 2.4 blocks per game. But he has turned the ball over a lot lately, and he has to improve in that regard.

LA Clippers @ Denver Nuggets

NBA: James Harden still struggles to find his groove with the LA Clippers
LA Clippers’ James Harden reacts during their NBA game against the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center.

The Clippers haven’t won a match since acquiring James Harden because he has yet to find his groove, with pedestrian norms of 13.5 points, five rebounds, and 4.3 assists per contest. With the Beard in the lineup, LA are still very much trying to figure things out with their new Big Four.

Unfortunately for them, they will run into a well-drilled Nuggets team that is looking to bounce back after suffering a 107-104 upset loss to the Rockets on Sunday.

With no one capable of slowing down Nikola Jokic, it is likely that the Clippers will suffer their sixth consecutive defeat, even with Jamal Murray sidelined.

Betting tip: Nuggets Asian Handicap -5.50 @ 1.94

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Golden State Warriors

The Timberwolves will aim to win their seventh consecutive game and second straight against the reeling Warriors tomorrow.

Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns overpowered the Warriors on Sunday by combining for 54 points. On the other hand, Steph Curry dropped 38 points in the losing effort.

The Warriors have veered away from their “Strength in Numbers” mantra during their dynasty, which is now a worrying trend for them this season.

Steph Curry (338 points) is nearly outscoring Chris Paul, Andrew Wiggins, and Klay Thompson (367 points) this season, and if this continues, it is safe to say that they aren’t considered title contenders anytime soon.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers are currently on a two-game winning streak, with close victories against the Suns and the Blazers.

LeBron James missed the Blazers game due to a calf contusion, and they are hoping that he’s 100-percent fit tomorrow. This season, the King continues to put up all-around numbers, with norms of 25.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

Whether James misses tomorrow or not, the Lakers remain in good hands with Anthony Davis in form. Against the Blazers, the Brow took over and recorded 30 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks.

The Grizzlies managed to secure their second win this season by beating the Clippers, and their top player has been Desmond Bane, who is averaging 26.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
