NBA Preview: The West is Where the Action’s At

countdown banner

With all due respect to the Eastern Conference, but all the meaningful Tuesday NBA action is out West! Both LA teams will be in action as the Lakers travel to the Mile High City to take on the Nuggets while the Clippers host a suddenly red-hot Carmelo Anthony and the Blazers.

Meanwhile, James Harden– fresh off his remarkable 60-point explosion — is set to lead the Rockets against the Spurs, who are in the midst of a horrific season.

Read on below for a quick preview of all seven games on the NBA slate.

Detroit Pistons @ Cleveland Cavaliers

The Pistons had quite a response to Blake Griffin calling out their lack of “fight” as they thumped the struggling Spurs at home, 132-98 at home. Griffin had a quiet night with just 10 points, but backup big man Christian Wood picked up the slack with 28 big points off the bench.

Detroit’s next task will be to translate that play on the road, where they are just 1-9 this season. But on the bright side, they will face another struggling side in the Cavaliers, who have lost nine of their last 10 games, including five of their last six at home.

Betting Tip: Pistons Asian Handicap -3.00 @ 2.04

Orlando Magic @ Washington Wizards

The Magic survived a bit of a scare last time out as they just edged out the Warriors at home, 100-96. Evan Fournier caught fire with 32 points — his second 30-point game in his last three outings — and went 6-of-10 on 3-pointers. But like the Pistons, they need to find a way to pick up wins away from home, where they are just 1-7 on the season.

They will look to do just that against the Wizards, who are finally coming back home after going just 1-3 in their tough four-game West  Coast road trip. The Wizards lost 125-121 in their first meeting against the Magic on the road and will be eager to settle the score.

Betting Tip: Magic Asian Handicap +2.00 @ 1.91

Dallas Mavericks @ New Orleans Pelicans

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavs defied the NBA 2019 odds as they came into Staples Center and derailed the Lakers’ 10-game winning streak. Doncic once again led the way with 27 points, and he got a lot of help as four other Mavs had 15 or more points.

The Mavs, who have won seven of their last eight games, will look to extend their winning run as they take on the free-falling Pelicans. New Orleans have dropped their last five games, although they lost the last three — against the Lakers and the Thunder (twice) — by five points or fewer.

Betting Tip: Mavericks Asian Handicap -4.00 @ 2.04

Miami Heat @ Toronto Raptors

The Heat snapped their two-game road losing streak — but only just — against the Brooklyn Nets. They stormed back from eight points down to snatch the dramatic 109-106 win. Goran Dragic had 24 points off the bench to lead the Heat, who are now 6-5 on the road.

However, they will be hard-pressed to improve upon that record as they take on the red-hot Raptors. The defending champions have seven games in a row and are an undefeated 9-0 at home this season. Their last two home wins have been particularly impressive as they blew out both the Knicks and Jazz by 20 or more points.

Betting Tip: Raptors Asian Handicap -4.50 @ 1.90

Houston Rockets @ San Antonio Spurs

James Harden just cannot be stopped. The Rockets superstar had one of the best games of his career against the Hawks as he dropped 60 points in just three quarters. Harden is now averaging a league-leading 38.9 points per game, a full eight points more than Giannis Antetokounmpo in second.

Harden will have his sights set on making more NBA 2019 highlights against the slumping Spurs, who suffered an embarrassing 34-point loss to the mediocre Pistons. San Antonio have now lost 11 of their last 13 games and possess a defence that’s currently ranked 27th in the league. So their chances of stopping Harden and the Rockets aren’t too great.

Betting Tip: Rockets Asian Handicap -3.50 @ 1.93

Los Angeles Lakers @ Denver Nuggets

The Lakers are looking to bounce back from their somewhat surprising home loss against the Nuggets. LeBron James and Anthony Davis both had their usual stellar games, but they didn’t quite get enough support offensively from their team-mates.

LA will have to work to prevent their first losing streak of the season as they take on the dangerous Nuggets in Denver. The Nuggets will also be aiming to get back to winning ways after a close 100-97 road loss to the Kings. But Denver have once again been outstanding at home, going 8-2 this season.

Betting Tip: Nuggets Asian Handicap -2.00 @ 1.90

Portland Trail Blazers @ Los Angeles Clippers

The Carmelo Anthony signing is finally starting to pay dividends for the Blazers. Melo followed up his vintage performance against the Bulls with two more great games as he averaged 22.3 points to lead the Blazers to a perfect 3-0 record last week. He also won Player of the Week honours for the first time since 2014.

But Anthony and the Blazers will be put to the test against Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and the Clippers, who have put up 150 points twice in their last six games at Staples Center. The Clippers are an impressive 12-1 at home overall this season and continue to show why they are the outright favourites to win the title according to the SBOBET odds.

Betting Tip: Trail Blazers Asian Handicap +9.50 @ 1.91
