It’s a good day to be the underdog!

countdown banner

Nothing fascinates people more than an underdog story. I am always pleasantly surprised whenever a smaller team that has the betting odds stacked against them manages to defeat the stronger competition.

This is what some of these teams managed to accomplish in today’s NBA games. These teams weren’t always looked at favourably in terms of snagging wins, but they’ve more than proven to a lot of sports betting vets that they can actually return the trust of those who bet online for them.

Houston Rockets 103-109 Miami Heat

This game definitely shocked a lot of Rockets fans.

It wasn’t a case of James Harden getting the yips: he actually clocked in another triple-double to add to his MVP candidacy. What made the game a certain Miami win was the solid contribution from the starting line-up and the bench. Six Heat players scored in double digits, two more than Houston. Goran Dragic’s near triple-double should boost his stock for the upcoming free agency.

Toronto Raptors 119-109 Brooklyn Nets

It was another day at the office for both the Toronto Raptors and the Brooklyn Nets. Corey Joseph did a fine job in standing in for the rested Kyle Lowry, while DeMar DeRozan kept doing what he did best. Brook Lopez had some help from Caris LeVert and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, but those contributions weren’t enough to push the Nets past Toronto.

Dallas Mavericks 99-98 Chicago Bulls

The Mavs may not have been able to stop Jimmy Butler, but a Wesley Matthews three late in the game was more than enough to bring Dallas past the Bulls. It’s also important to note that the Dallas bench did a great job in stopping their opposite numbers from scoring.

Minnesota Timberwolves 114-122 San Antonio Spurs

It may have been pretty obvious from tip-off that San Antonio would eventually win the game, but the Thibodeau-led Wolves actually led the game during the second and third quarters. Minnesota just weren’t able to stop Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge from wreaking damage.

Denver Nuggets 127-121 Los Angeles Lakers

Nikola Jokic had a field day at Staples Center, stuffing three shots to go with his double-double. The rest of the Denver starting unit was also firing on all cylinders; it is worthwhile to note that Kennet Faried made nine of his 10 shot attempts. Meanwhile, Julius Randle and D’Angelo Russell failed to make up for their defensive lapses, with both of them shooting for less than 30%.
