1st ODI: New Zealand vs England
England and New Zealand open their five-match ODI series on Sunday in a contest to keep cricket fans worldwide happy.
With the World Cup 2019 in view, these two teams are highly fancied by sports betting pundits to make the last four, and there will be plenty of mobile betting cricket fans picking one of them to win the Cup. England are currently third in the ICC world rankings, a point behind South Africa and a point ahead of New Zealand.
So there’s little to choose between these two, and I expect a tight contest with betting odds marginally favouring the hosts.
Trevor Bayliss’ England have become a real force in the one day game, and they will see this as an opportunity to set down a marker. Alongside the spectacularly gifted Jos Buttler, other ODI specialists Alex Hales and Adil Rashid have pledged their future to white-ball cricket. And the world’s most feared match-winner, Ben Stokes, has rejoined the squad. The Three Lions mean business!
The Kiwis’ potent threat will come from the fast bowling partnership of Trent Boult and Tim Southee, who is constantly improving over the past seven years. Boult, meanwhile, sits third in the ICC rankings and was joint leading wicket-taker at the 2015 World Cup.
With the bat, Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill are imposing forces, while wicket-keeper batsman Tom Latham is coming off a good tour in India where he scored a 103 in 102 balls.
So the place to be this Sunday is the beautiful village-green setting of Seddon Park in Hamilton, where it will be anything other than tranquil. See you there!
