What a Way to Start for the New-look Cavs!

After the trade deadline frenzy when they gave away six players to acquire four new pieces, the Cavaliers finally got to test their new lineup.

Fortunately for the Wine and Gold, the trade seems to be the right decision especially after their blowout win over online gambling favourites Boston Celtics at TD Garden.

All eyes were on the Cavs heading into the big live betting affair. And despite concerns about the lack of chemistry on their revamped roster, King James and The Land proved they are ready to turn the betting odds in their favour once again.

Cleveland Cavaliers 121-99 Boston Celtics

The Cavs needed this win. There were questions if their new lineup would work, and they answered all of that in this matchup with the Celtics.

LeBron James had a near triple-double of 24 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Most importantly, however, their new acquisitions—Rodney Hood, George Hill, Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr.— combined for 49 points and proved that the Cavs were right trading for them.

Toronto Raptors 123-103 Charlotte Hornets

DeMar DeRozan, Jonas Valanciunas and CJ Miles scored 20-plus points each and combined for 70 points to blow out the Hornets. The result of the game was never in doubt after the Raps led by as much as 36 points midway through the final quarter.

This victory, coupled with the Celts’ loss to the Cavs, propelled Toronto to the top of the East standings.

Detroit Pistons 115-118 Atlanta Hawks

Six players scored in double figures for Atlanta as they edged a strong Detroit side. Dewayne Dedmon (20 points and 13 boards) was pivotal in the win as he put the Hawks in front off a putback layup with 1:34 to play before firing a three to give them a comfortable five-point cushion.

Andre Drummond bagged a double-double of 25 points and 15 rebounds while Blake Griffin scored 23 in a losing effort for the Pistons.

New York Knicks 113-121 Indiana Pacers

It’s another brilliant showing from first-time All-Star Victor Oladipo as his all-around effort paced the Pacers to victory over the Knicks. The 2018 Slam Dunk contestant had 30 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and six steals to help Indiana easily handle a New York team missing the production of their best player Kristaps Porzingis.

Sacramento Kings 106-111 Minnesota Timberwolves

The Wolves extended their winning streak at home to 13 despite a sloppy performance against the Kings. Minnesota had 16 turnovers and gave Sacramento 22 second-chance points, but they managed to overcome their poor display with a huge 36-26 fourth quarter.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 29 points while Jimmy Butler scored 18, 15 of which are in the second half.

Dallas Mavericks 97-104 Houston Rockets

James Harden and Chris Paul scored 27 and 25 respectively to power the Rockets past the struggling Mavericks. Dallas dominated the boards, but they weren’t able to counter Houston offensively especially with Wesley Matthews and Dirk Nowitzki out due to injuries.

Memphis Grizzlies 92-110 Oklahoma City Thunder

No Russell Westbrook? No Carmelo Anthony? No problem for Paul George! The former Indiana Pacers man stepped up for the shorthanded Thunder and scored 33 points to devour the hapless Grizzlies. Oklahoma led by 17 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back as Memphis lost their sixth straight game.

Utah Jazz 102-88 Portland Trail Blazers

Rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell kept Utah’s playoff hopes alive as he sparked them to their ninth straight victory. Damian Lillard poured in 39 for Portland, but a 38-19 third-quarter rally from Utah doomed the Blazers’ chances of climbing up further in the West.

Mitchell finished with 27 points while the Twin Towers of Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors both bagged a double-double in points and rebounds.
