Golden State Warriors 118-111 Brooklyn Nets
Golden State survived a second-half scoring barrage from Brooklyn to escape with a seven-point win without Kevin Durant. The Warriors led by 22 at the end of the first half, but the Nets exploded for 42 points in the third to cut their deficit. Fortunately, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson had the hot hands and managed to keep the Dubs in front.
Detroit Pistons 100-97 Minnesota Timberwolves
Led by Andre Drummond, Detroit’s starters all scored in double figures to will the team to a narrow victory over Minnesota. Jimmy Butler, who tallied 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves, could have had sent the game to overtime, but his last-second three rattled out of the ring to the frustration of the home fans.
Chicago Bulls 105-113 Phoenix Suns
Bulls rookie Lauri Markkanen recorded career-highs with his 26-point, 13-rebound outing; however, his efforts were not enough to stop the hot-handed Suns who made half of their attempts from the field. TJ Warren ignited Phoenix with 27 points as they dominated Chicago with better ball movement.
Denver Nuggets 109-127 Los Angeles Lakers
It’s the Lonzo Ball show at Staples Center once again after the highly-prized rookie bagged his second career triple-double (11 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists) to spark the Lakers’ blowout of the Nuggets. Denver trailed by 22 points in the first half and were never able to recover as LA’s Julius Randle and Brook Lopez also combined for 45 points.
