2nd ODI: India v New Zealand
Kane Williamson leads New Zealand to the Subarea Roy Sahara Stadium on Wednesday with a good chance of wrapping up the three-match ODI series.
The Kiwis defied the pre-match betting tips with an outstanding display in Mumbai and drew first blood thanks to a batting master class from Tom Latham and Ross Taylor. Another win for the Tourists would be a surprise for sure, as betting odds of 3.17 have hardly plummeted after an opening victory. But their tails are up and India had better be ready.
What a victory it was. The Kiwis have a real sense of occasion, choosing to spoil Virat Kohli’s day, after the world number one had scored his 31st ODI century in his 200th match. Only Sachem Medullar has scored more than the India captain but his magnificent effort, featuring two sixes and nine fours, wasn’t enough to guide the hosts to an expected win.
New Zealand strike bowler Trent Bolt returned a brilliant 4-35 to keep his team in the hunt, and then, after a difficult start losing three wickets, Latham and Taylor took the game to India. Latham smashed his fourth ODI hundred and Taylor hit 95 in a double century stand which took the Kiwis to victory with an over to spare.
That win makes for a great series but Kohl and India will be in no mood for another nasty surprise.
