The four-stop, four-day promotional tour of Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Conor McGregor is finally over, and you better review the clips if you missed any of the trash talking and war of words at LA, Toronto, Brooklyn and London.
The press tour, of course, holds little significance on betting websites. However, it can’t be denied that it’s effective enough to keep sports betting fans excited and stir discussions on online gambling forums.
Indeed, it’s the “fight before the fight,” and it’s entertainment at its finest as the two biggest loudmouths in combat sports faced each other a little over a month before they stepped into the boxing ring.
Their first public meeting at LA was sensational, to say the least, with both guys sending and landing some solid jabs against each other.
Interestingly, the two of them both declared a knockout, with McGregor going as far as claiming that he’ll finish Mayweather within four rounds.
The defensive-minded Mayweather was certainly out of character when he said that the Irishman is going out of the fight lying either on his face or back, and that will undoubtedly raise expectations on the match that many anticipate to be full of dodging and running.
Toronto was no different for the two, but Mayweather learned a lesson there that not everyone will be on his side – the crowd booing him when he tried to get them follow his chant was enough proof of that.
And as much as a disaster their Brooklyn stop was—Mayweather and McGregor just wasting time with cheap and repetitive insults and spewing more profanity than necessary—they bounced back and closed their tour with a bang in London.
Both of them showed their promotional best, though it was still McGregor who feed off the crowd on his 29th birthday and entertained them with great one-liners.
Next stop is the real bout on August 26 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and here’s to hoping that their slugfest will be as compelling as this tour.
McGregor is the underdog with odds putting him at 5.00 to win, so he’ll need his fists to back his big mouth come the fight – he’s a first-time boxer after all.
For Mayweather – who is at odds of 1.17 – his years of experience as a five-division world champion give him an advantage, but he is 40 years old already and as he confirmed at the start of the tour, he is no longer the same fighter he was ten or five years ago.
Mayweather, at 49-0, is one of the best boxers of all time and he is obviously aiming for one last hurrah (and a big payday) before hanging his gloves for good, while McGregor is looking to become the best (and most popular) fighter that transcends his own sport.
