The 2026 winter transfer window will be crucial for several Serie A teams, as we’re in for a tight battle for the Scudetto, with at least five teams in the hunt. As of this writing, Inter Milan are at the top of the Italian top-flight standings with some breathing space after Matchday 19, with AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli, and AS Roma close by.
AC Milan were the first to make a key move by agreeing to a loan deal with West Ham United to bring over Niclas Fullkrug, and the German striker has already made an impact in his first three appearances in a Rossoneri uniform. AS Roma are planning something similar to improve their attack, which has generated only 24 goals thus far.
Juventus could also use some help in the playmaking department, and they’re eyeing several Premier League stars. Meanwhile, Genoa’s planned coup was thwarted due to circumstances beyond their grasp.

AS Roma eye double swoop to bolster frontline
AS Roma are planning to add to their attacking firepower, with Aston Villa’s Donyell Malen and Marseille’s Robinio Vaz as their top prospects. The Giallorossi reportedly plan to loan Malen with a €28.5 million buy option, while Vaz is reportedly being sold for €25 million.
Before identifying Malen and Vaz, AS Roma spent weeks chasing Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Atletico Madrid’s Giacomo Raspadori. However, Manchester United adjusted their strategy after firing Ruben Amorim, while Raspadori was unsure about leaving the Wanda Metropolitano, forcing AS Roma to look elsewhere. The Giallorossi were also linked with a potential swap deal involving Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca.
Malen has had to settle for substitute appearances more often than not this season, starting just five of the Villan’s 21 Premier League games and scoring four goals. His motivation for joining the Giallorossi would be to boost his chances of being selected for the Netherlands’ 2026 World Cup team.
Vaz won’t celebrate his 19th birthday until next month, but he has already registered four goals and two assists in 14 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
With Artem Dovbyk (thigh) facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, AS Roma have a huge sense of urgency to get another capable attacker to provide competition for the likes of Paulo Dybala, Matias Soule, and Evan Ferguson.
Juventus might reunite with former star
Juventus are reportedly plotting to pry Federico Chiesa away from Liverpool, as the Italian forward has been a marginal figure under Arne Slot since moving to Anfield during the 2024 summer transfer window. Chiesa has managed only one start in the English top-flight so far this season, logging approximately 228 minutes in total, which is not a good return for a team that is paying him around £150,000 per week.

Before joining Liverpool, Chiesa was a star in Turin, notching 34 goals in 153 appearances in all competitions while winning two Coppa Italias, one Supercoppa Italiana, and one European championship (2020). He was also part of Liverpool’s Premier League-winning squad in 2024-25, albeit as a bench player.
If Juventus won’t get Chiesa, local reports indicate that their plan B is Atalanta forward Daniel Maldini, son of Italian icon Paolo. The Bianconeri have also been linked with Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, among others.
Besides restocking their attacking options to improve their Serie A 2026 odds, the Bianconeri are also keen on acquiring Bernardo Silva, who’s approaching the end of his contract with Manchester City. The soon-to-be-free-agent Portuguese midfielder is being viewed as Juventus’ version of Luka Modric for AC Milan, albeit much younger.
Genoa suffer unfortunate transfer blow
Bento was supposed to move to Italy after Genoa secured a loan deal with a €9 million buy option with Al-Nassr, but the agreement between the two sides has collapsed, much to the dismay of Genoa fans.
Al-Nassr suddenly changed their plans, as backup goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi incurred at least a two-game suspension for his straight red card in their 3-1 loss against Al-Hilal. And with their third goalkeeper injured, Al-Nassr are without a proper No. 1, and the Saudi Pro League side cannot afford that, as they’re fighting for this season’s league championship.
Unless Bento forces Al-Nassr to let him go to Serie A at all costs, Genoa could start to look elsewhere. In the meantime, they’ll continue to roll with 32-year-old Nicola Leali as their first-choice goalkeeper. Daniele De Rossi’s Rossoblu improved to 15th in the Italian top-flight table following their 3-0 win over Cagliari last night.
