Denmark vs Germany
The European powerhouse heads over the border to its proud neighbour on Tuesday, when Germany and Denmark meet at the Brondby Stadium.
It’s a replay of the 1992 European Championships Final when Denmark stunned the Germans and overturned betting odds with a historic victory. The Handicap Betting tips suggest a repeat next week is unlikely, with Denmark at 4.00 to win, Germany at 1.85 and the draw 3.40. Or you can get 2.06 on Denmark to win with a +0.50 advantage.
When the Danes beat the unified Germany back in the nineties, their stopper happened to be the great Peter Schmeichel, whose son Kasper is now the guardian of the goal but, absent with a thigh injury, will be replaced by Utrecht’s David Jensen.
The Danish defence will face a severe test though, against Joachim Low’s Germany, the form team of Europe. Leading World Cup Qualifying Group C with a maximum return of 15 points from five games and a goal difference of plus 19 the Germans, as always, will be formidable opposition.
Andre Schurrle scored twice as Germany beat Azerbaijan 4-1 last time out and Low has plenty of firepower to call on, with Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez also scoring.
Age Hareide’s Denmark is third in Group E where only one point separates second to fifth in a group dominated by Poland. But his team is no pushover, with star man Christian Eriksen capable of hurting any defence when he plays.
And the Danes won a hard fought point in a goalless draw in Romania recently, so, if Jensen has a good game, a bet on under 2.5 goals at 2.07 could represent good value.
