Inter Miami do not plan on resting on their laurels after clinching their first Major League Soccer crown last week, winning 3-1 against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Fort Lauderdale. The David Beckham-owned franchise recently confirmed the addition of one of the top free agents on the market, as they prepare for the impending departures of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who announced they will retire from professional football.
Not to be left out, the LA Galaxy also made a huge swing in the trade market by acquiring one of the league’s most accomplished defenders from the Philadelphia Union, which should boost their Major League Soccer 2025 odds for next season after a disappointing 2025 campaign. San Diego FC are also reportedly finalising a deal with the New York Red Bulls to bolster their frontline.

Inter Miami scour the open market for reinforcements
Inter Miami just confirmed that they’ve signed Sergio Reguilon on a free transfer. The 28-year-old left-back had been without a club since Tottenham released him at the end of last season. The Spanish international has signed a contract with the Herons until December 2027.
Reguilon will likely succeed Jordi Alba, who will retire, and he’s not a bad replacement. Before joining Inter Miami, Reguilon, who joined the Spurs from Real Madrid in September 2020, spent a significant portion of the past three seasons out on loan with spells at Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and Brentford. He made a total of 86 appearances in the Premier League, recording two goals. Overall, he has made over 260 appearances and won major trophies, including the Europa League and FIFA Club World Cup.
“It’s a very ambitious project, a winning club that is doing things the right way, and that’s what attracted me: coming here to keep winning and competing,” Reguilon said in a statement. “My objective is to keep winning, go after the trophies we’re missing, and win everything here.”
Meanwhile, the Herons also confirmed the permanent signing of Rodrigo De Paul from Atletico Madrid. The 31-year-old midfielder initially joined Inter Miami on loan in July. He played a key role in their championship run, contributing two goals and seven assists in 23 appearances across all competitions. De Paul will now occupy a Designated Player roster spot alongside Lionel Messi, filling one of the openings left by Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
LA Galaxy reinforce their backline after poor season
The LA Galaxy completed a massive defensive coup by acquiring Jakob Glesnes from the Philadelphia Union in exchange for $2.2 million in General Allocation Money (GAM). Additionally, LA have acquired the homegrown priority for forward Jamir Johnson, and Philadelphia retained a future trade and sell-on percentage in the 17-year-old forward.

Glesnes was a constant for Philadelphia in the past six seasons, notching 10 goals and eight assists in 224 appearances across all competitions. He was named the 2022 MLS Defender of the Year and, in 2025, earned MLS Best XI and MLS All-Star selections. The 31-year-old also won two Supporters’ Shields with the Philadelphia Union, including in 2025, where they conceded a league-low 35 goals.
Glesnes’ arrival fills an important need, as the LA Galaxy conceded 66 goals this year, tied for the second-worst mark in the league. They finished 14th in the Western Conference with only 30 points, though they qualified for next year’s CONCACAF Champions Cup via their Leagues Cup performance.
Meanwhile, with Glesnes’ departure, the Philadelphia Union will have Olwethu Makhanya as their top centre-back, and the club could bring in further additions this winter, having already signed striker Ezekiel Alladoh for a club record $4.5 million.
San Diego FC’s attack heading in a different direction
San Diego FC will acquire Scottish forward Lewis Morgan from the New York Red Bulls in a move that could bolster the striker position and trigger the departure of Hirving Lozano, whose status with the club is uncertain since a locker room incident last October. The trade is expected to include a San Diego draft pick and $400,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). New York are also believed to be absorbing some of Morgan’s salary.
Injuries have hampered Morgan in the past two seasons, though he guided the New York Red Bulls to the MLS Cup final in 2024. In his healthy years in 2022 and 2024, the 29-year-old winger contributed 27 goals and 11 assists in 61 appearances. In 2023 and 2025, he had no goals and no assists in eight appearances.
