Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham
North London will be awash with White on Sunday when Premier League: Tottenham vs Fulham takes centre stage.
With two of the most attack minded coaches in the business, one thing we can realistically hope for is plenty of goalmouth action. Both teams played out spectacular goal-filled matches last weekend but they came out on different ends of the results. While Spurs pulled off one of the SBOTOP Premier League 2024 shocks so far with a 4-0 win away to champions Manchester City, Fulham had their own home ground disaster, losing 4-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Craven Cottage.
It was a shocker of a result for the Cottagers, but no team is on a longer scoring streak in the Premier League this season than Marco Silva’s Fulham. They have scored in each of the last 11 games and that equals their longest scoring run previously, back in 2007.
The Tottenham vs Fulham betting odds back Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs to put the Cottagers to the sword and they have scored 13 goals in their last five games, so I really can’t see a 0-0 draw. And to add to the spice the fact that only one point separates sixth placed Tottenham from ninth placed Fulham, so an away win will see the two London rivals swap places again.
Talking Points
Vicario out for Tottenham
Spurs are at home to Roma on Thursday night and they will be without keeper Guglielmo Vicario for the first time since he signed from Empoli back in the summer of 2023. He hasn’t missed a minute of action since his arrival and Vicario even played the full 90 minutes in the win over Manchester City, even though it later emerged that he had fractured an ankle in a collision Savinho in the first half. Tottenham ran out comfortable winners and with a truly unbelievable score-line, but the Sky Blues dominated possession for long periods and had 23 shots to Tottenham’s nine and Vicario was called on to make three outstanding saves in the second half.
His heroics will go down in Spurs folklore but now the 28 year old Italian faces a lengthy period on the sidelines. Postecoglou has said he will not dip into the transfer market and that means the experienced Fraser Forster is likely to step in. He made 14 appearances in the 2022/23 season and Forster has been the man on the bench for 11 of Spurs’ league games this season.
At the other end of the pitch captain Heung Min Son has made a strong return with three goals and four assists while James Maddison is back to his best with five goals and three assists. He scored twice against the Sky Blues and Maddison will be an attacking threat again on Sunday, while summer signing Dominic Solanke is working hard to increase his goal tally.
Fulham need to keep hold of a lead
Attacking free flowing football is great to watch and it will keep the fans flooding in, providing the results come with it. And in the main Silva has managed to keep that balance, but it could have been so much better had his team managed to avoid letting winning positions slip through their fingers. Only Brentford have dropped more points from winning positions than Fulham’s 13 and the situation has been worrying in recent weeks. The Cottagers really expected to put Wolves in their place last week and they started much as they had hoped when Alex Iwobi gave them a 20th minute lead before they capitulated!
Iwobi also gave Fulham the lead against struggling Everton before they conceded deep into stoppage time. They also had their noses in front in recent defeats to Aston Villa and Manchester City, Raul Jimenez scoring his fourth goal of the campaign against the Villains.
But let’s not be too critical; there are plenty of teams which would love to go ahead as frequently as the Cottagers do and, before the shock loss to Wolves, Silva’s men pulled off back to back wins over Brentford and Crystal Palace, with Harry Wilson scoring three and summer signing Emile Smith- Rowe also scoring against the Eagles.
History
With 22 wins to 10 Spurs have had much the better of the Tottenham vs Fulham results in all competitions this century. Last season Postecoglou’s team won this fixture 2-0 but were later slapped 3-0 by Fulham at Craven Cottage.
There isn’t much to pick between the two teams in terms of recent form with Tottenham winning three and losing three of their last six, while Fulham have won two drawn one and lost three in that time.
Betting Tip
The Cottagers have failed to win on their last five visits to Tottenham and the hosts are strong favourites to win this London Derby at a price of 1.63 with the Draw at 3.80, while a Fulham win is out at 3.99.
Spurs’ trip to the Etihad showed just how dangerous they can be, but then Fulham know where the goal is better than most…it’s going to be a December 1st cracker!
