Sunderland vs Southampton
No-one could have predicted Sunderland going to Palace and winning 4-0, let alone producing the level of performance.
David Moyes’ men remain bottom but have gained untold confidence from their best all-round team showing of the season.
Southampton have had little luck of late with captain Virgil van Dijk injured and the departure of Jose Fonte to West Ham, but they remain a side who can trouble most teams on their day.
They have a fortnight’s break after this and will want a positive result ahead of the League Cup Final.
West Ham vs West Brom
Six wins in nine games back up the claim of Hammers’ boss Slaven Bilic who felt his critics were wrong to doubt him after a poor first third of the campaign, which included a run of seven matches without a win.
The difficulties of adjusting to their new surroundings and the Dimitri Payet saga merely added to the misery which, while has not gone away completely, is fast becoming a distant memory.
However, they still trail high-flying West Brom by five points whose own manager Tony Pulis continues to prove his value.
WEEK 25 SUNDAY:
Burnley vs Chelsea
The side with the best away record in the top flight travel to the club with one of the best home records.
Chelsea are nine points clear at the top and, after their annual dismantling of Arsenal, are odds-on favourites for a second Premier League title triumph in three years.
Given their resources, the newly-promoted Clarets have been every bit as successful themselves this season, although never gave themselves a chance at Watford last weekend when Jeff Hendrick was dismissed after just seven minutes – he’ll be banned for this one.
WEEK 25 MONDAY:
Swansea City vs Leicester City
What a game this could be.
Surely, reigning champions Leicester could not be in the bottom three come the end of the weekend?
Certainly, Swansea are on a roll under new boss Paul Clement and showed a different side to their character last weekend – conceding just one goal during a Man City bombardment and clawing their way back into the game only to concede a last-gasp equaliser.
Only goal difference separates these two.
WEEK 25 TUESDAY:
Bournemouth vs Manchester City
Against a Bournemouth side which conceded six last time out, the likes of new favourite Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero (if selected), David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne must be looking forward to their trip to the Vitality Stadium.
City have made 80 changes to their starting line-ups this season, more than any other Premier League side – and they can do with their squad!
For Eddie Howe’s men, a good result at home to their mega-rich visitors will ensure they avoid the threat of being drawn into a relegation battle.
