NBA: Donovan Mitchell Returns to Utah for the First Time as a Cavalier

The Cavaliers are set to play the Jazz on the road on Tuesday, which marks Donovan Mitchell’s first game in Utah since he was traded during the offseason.

In his first five seasons in the NBA, all spent in Utah, Mitchell became a bona fide star. And this season, he’s living up to the hype in Cleveland, making them a legitimate threat in the Eastern Conference.

Elsewhere, the Sixers, Heat, Raptors, Warriors, Blazers, and Clippers are going to host the Pistons, Thunder, Hornets, Suns, Magic, and Mavericks, respectively.

So, continue to read on below as SBOTOP previews four out of the seven games in the league tomorrow.

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Utah Jazz

Win-win trades are a rarity in the NBA, and the Jazz and Cavaliers have proven that it’s possible.

In the said trade, Cleveland got Donovan Mitchell in exchange for Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, and draft compensation. The Jazz were supposed to be rebuilding, but they started the season hot before going down to 11th in the West standings.

The Jazz got their new star in Lauri Markkanen, who is tipped as one of the favourites to win Most Improved Player, according to the NBA 2023 odds. The Finnisher is averaging 24.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this season for Utah.

The Cavs come into Utah having won four of their last five games, including a win over the Bulls, where Mitchell recorded 71 points and 11 assists.

The Jazz, meanwhile, have lost seven of their last eight games.

Betting Tip: Cleveland Cavaliers Asian Handicap -3.50 @ 1.90

Phoenix Suns @ Golden State Warriors

NBA: Stephen Curry is officially listed on the injury report as questionable
Stephen Curry gestures during the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies at Chase Center

The Warriors are hopeful that Steph Curry will make his return to the lineup sooner rather than later. He is officially listed on the injury report as questionable, which is a huge step since he was expected to sit out for more than a month due to a shoulder injury.

Prior to sitting out, Curry was having yet another MVP-calibre season with averages of 30.0 points, 6.8 assists, and 6.6 rebounds in 26 games with shooting splits of 59/43/92.

His Splash Brother, Klay Thompson, is likely to play after being sidelined in their 115-101 loss against the Bulls. In the three games prior, the 32-year-old sharpshooter had scored at least 30 points.

Tomorrow is also going to be Andrew Wiggins’ second consecutive game following a lengthy absence. He posted 12 points in 19 minutes against the Magic.

As for the Suns, they’ve ruled out Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Cameron Johnson, Jae Crowder, and Cameron Payne, while Deandre Ayton, Torrey Craig, and Landry Shamet are all questionable.

Phoenix are in the middle of a major slump, having gone 1-9 in their last 10 games.

Orlando Magic @ Portland Blazers

The Magic are approaching the healthiest they’ve been in a long time, which could help them generate more positive NBA 2023 results.

Bol Bol has been cleared by the league’s health and safety protocols, and he might play tomorrow if he’s 100-per cent fit. The 23-year-old is enjoying a breakout campaign this year, averaging 12.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game.

Youngsters Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner are leading the way for the Magic, averaging 21.4 and 20.1 points per game, respectively.

A Blazers victory, on the other hand, would return them to .500. They’re currently on a three-game skid after losing to the Timberwolves, Pacers, and Raptors.

Dallas Mavericks @ Los Angeles Clippers

Luka Doncic is undoubtedly the Mavericks’ MVP. They have lost all four games that Doncic has missed this season, including their 120-109 result against OKC on Sunday.

Prior to Sunday, Dallas had won eight of their last nine games as Doncic put up huge numbers, while his teammates also stepped up. They’re currently fourth in the West standings with a 23-18 record.

The Clippers, on the other hand, are not in the mood to enter this game since they’ve lost six consecutive games. It is the longest losing streak in head coach Tyronn Lue’s three-season tenure in LA.

Injuries are the main reason why the Clippers are struggling right now. Paul George (hamstring) and Luke Kennard (calf) were out against the Hawks on Sunday, while Kawhi Leonard sat out a road loss to the Timberwolves on Friday, although he dropped 29 points against the Hawks.

After surging all the way up to the fourth seed in the West standings a few weeks ago, the Clippers have trended in the wrong direction, and they can’t seem to figure anything out.
