After an eventful three weeks to which we saw three Formula 1 races, fans all over the world can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The 2020 Austrian, Steiermark, and Hungarian Grand Prix events were sights to behold since our favourite drivers were able to give us a decent amount of Formula 1 2020 highlights.
Mercedes picked up where they left off with resounding wins in Austria and in Hungary while we’ve witnessed some surprising developments as well – for different reasons.
As one constructor falls, the other one rises. And that was the case between Ferrari and McLaren who have had contrasting performances during this season’s restart.
McLaren have made it to third place with 41 points – only 14 points behind the second-seeded team in Red Bull. Meanwhile, Ferrari fell down to fifth with only 27 points and things aren’t looking so bright as of the moment.
So today here in SBOBET, we feature the latest news surrounding these two teams as we prepare for the upcoming British Grand Prix on August 2nd.
Ferrari announces major technical changes
The Scudetto are pulling out all the stops in order to halt their skid, so big changes are coming for the Prancing Horse. Ferrari did so by revamping their technical department and establishing a simplified chain of command.
Iconic Formula 1 car designer Rory Byrne, who was the brains behind Michael Schumacher’s domination back in the day, is set to return to the team and he will be working alongside the likes of Enrico Gualtieri, Laurent Mekies, Enrico Cardile, and Simone Resta.
“As hinted at a few days ago, we are making changes to the technical side of the organisation so as to speed up the design and development on the car performance front,” said team principal Mattia Binotto.
“We believe Ferrari personnel are of the highest level and we have nothing to envy about our main competitors in this respect, but we had to make a decisive change, raising the bar in terms of the responsibilities of the department heads,” he added.
Binotto and the rest of the Scudetto would certainly hope that this overhaul will help improve their cars performance-wise.
Since the Formula 1 committee introduced a new set of fuel-flow regulations back in 2019, Ferrari have been off pace since their cars have been hugely affected by this mandate.
With the regulation requiring that this season’s car should still be used in 2021, the Prancing Horse would have to maximise their situation internally in order to improve.
The ball is now in Sebastian Vettel’s hands
Sebastian Vettel’s name has been on the headlines for quite some time now, especially after he announced that he will be leaving Ferrari next season.
The 33-year-old driver did not come to terms with the Scudetto as the latter have turned their focus to the future by bringing in Carlos Sainz Jr.
But from being a driver who is desperately seeking a new Formula 1 team, Vettel’s situation has changed dramatically and now he’s on the driver’s seat.
There were rumours about him getting a contract offer from Aston Martin Racing (or more known as Racing Point) next year given that Sergio Perez is in talks with Alfa Romeo.
Although this has yet to be true as far as Aston Martin Racing is concerned, their team principal in Otmar Szafnauer neither denied or confirmed this development.
Szafnauer has already made it known that he wants his team to be gunning for wins in the next three years, so getting a driver in Vettel’s calibre would certainly be a huge asset for them.
If this comes into fruition, expect Vettel to bide his time. However, this should be a no-brainer for him.
McLaren looking ahead of the British Grand Prix
McLaren have been on the rise after the first three races of 2020 as they have scored more than a quarter of their points that they accumulated during the 2019 season.
Lando Norris was a surprise package in the Austrian Grand Prix, having finished at the podium alongside Charles Leclerc and Valtteri Bottas. However, it was followed up by mixed performances in the succeeding two events.
He finished fifth in the Steiermark Grand Prix which isn’t bad. However, he failed to score for the first time this season after finishing 13th in Hungary.
But for a team like McLaren, they’ll take those results any day especially with their low Formula 1 2020 odds.
“We really pulled through as a team and we’re travelling back to UK with 41 points in the constructors,” said team principal Andreas Seidl.
“We’ll take away a lot of positives from this opening stint, but also know there are areas in which we must improve. We’ll use the time we have before going to Silverstone to do just that,” he added.
McLaren’s ascension to the top may be considered as a fluke by most pundits, but they can prove their doubters wrong in the next couple of races.
