K-League: Daegu Gun For Another Win Versus Gangwon

Daegu FC vs Gangwon FC

Daegu FC will aim to sustain their superb form in the ongoing K-League season as they host Gangwon FC this Saturday.

After being winless in the first three games of the season, the Lee Byunggeun-managed side have gathered three victories in their last five and are looking better than ever as they continue to round into midseason form.

Their improvement has propelled them to a top-four spot with 13 points as of this writing and they have a chance to move up to the third spot should they win this weekend’s fixture.

Meanwhile, Gangwon FC are not far off from them in the standings. The Kim Byungsoo-coached team are sixth at the table with 11 points.

However, they have lost their last two matches in humiliating fashion and they would be keen on trying to snap out of their funk.

Can Daegu FC continue their roll against Gangwon FC? Or will the latter get back on their feet with an away win this weekend?

Today, let us examine both of these teams to see how they would fare this weekend.

Talking Points

Daegu showing no mercy on the attack

My fellow colleague pointed out on how Daegu are slowly regaining their dangerous form in the K-League.

A huge part of that is because of the re-emergence of Cesinha and Edgar who have been influential cogs for the Lee Byunggeun-coached club.

The Brazilian duo continues to pour in goals and a ton of K-League 2020 highlights for Daegu as they zoom up to the fourth place in the standings.

One of their most memorable performances lately is their 6-0 demolition job against FC Seoul where the latter’s defence wasn’t able to put up any kind of resistance.

Cesinha kickstarted the goal-fest in the 10th minute and then it was followed up by a brace from Kim Dae-won, a late goal from Dejan Damjanovic, and two own goals from FC Seoul players Park Chu-young and Jeong Hyeon-cheoi.

Then days after their statement win, Daegu faced a tough challenge as they weren’t able to put Busan I’Park away although they added two more goals from Cesinha and Lee Jin-hyun.

However, they were able to bounce back once again with a 3-1 tally over the Suwon Bluewings – a team to which they had trouble facing last season.

Daegu have been taking the league by storm with their run as of late. And with their stars clicking at the right time, it will be hard to see anyone stopping them soon.

Gangwon struggling in the second half

Gangwon have shown to be a decent team this term, but they would need to improve more in order to consider themselves as one of the league’s best.

They’ve managed to upset the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors earlier this season. However, they couldn’t sustain their momentum from there ever since.

Kim Byungsoo’s side are in a two-match losing streak after losing against top-tier teams in Ulsan Hyundai and the Pohang Steelers.

Looking at both of these games, what’s common about these losses is their inability to get the job done in the second half.

They would normally fare well in the first half by keeping the game goalless up until the final 30 minutes of the game.

Against Ulsan Hyundai, Gangwon’s defence faltered when the trio of Yoon Bit-garam, Junior Negrao, and Bjorn Johnsen caught fire – scoring three goals in just 15 minutes.

Then it was deja vu a few days later when Stanislav Iljutcenko and Kwon Wan-kyu found the back of the net for the Pohang Steelers, negating their superb first-half defencive display.

Prior to the start of the season, questions about the effectivity of “Byung-soo ball” have been lingering.

But they’ve already shown the ability to bounce back after an uneven start of the season, so it’s expected that they will bounce back sooner or later.

History

Daegu FC have had the upper hand in their overall head-to-head matchups against Gangwon FC.

In their 37 encounters together, Daegu won in 17 while Gangwon won in 10 along with 10 draws.

Matches between these two teams are high-scoring by nature as they’ve averaged 4.67 goals per match in the last three contests.

Gangwon FC have not won against Daegu FC in more than eight matches already.

Betting Tip

??
Daegu FC vs Gangwon FC Daegu FC Asian Handicap -0.50 @ 2.04
June 27, 19:00(GMT+8)

Surprisingly, our latest K-League 2020 odds point to a close victory for Daegu FC as they are priced at 2.03, while Gangwon FC are placed at 3.50 and chances of a draw are pegged at 3.35 in the 1×2 market.

With Gangwon FC struggling to score along with Daegu FC’s hot form as of late, it is likely that the latter will win on their home pitch come Saturday evening.

Goals are to be expected for this match as mentioned a while ago, so this will be cracker for football fans to enjoy.
