Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors vs Incheon United
When Incheon United take a trip to the Jeonju World Cup Stadium this weekend, they will only have one thing on their mind – which is to try and grab their first victory this season.
However, they will face the gargantuan task of trying to defeat the K-League defending champions in Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors – who are sitting on top of the updated standings.
The visiting Mariners are currently at the bottom of the K-League table without a win in five tries. They only have two points after drawing twice along with three losses.
On the other hand, the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors are enjoying their time on top once more with 12 points and they are beaming with confidence as each matchday passes by.
Incheon United’s K-League 2020 results have been abysmal over the past few weeks. After drawing out competitive draws in their first two matches, the Mariners are suddenly on a downward trajectory with a three-match losing streak.
Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, meanwhile, are coming off of a resounding victory against FC Seoul a week after they endured a shocking loss against Gangwon FC. And they will aim for another winning streak anew starting on this upcoming fixture.
On paper, Jeonbuk are expected to cruise past the visitors at home. But can Incheon pull off a surprise this weekend? SBOBET is here for our match preview.
Talking Points
Jeonbuk showing off their championship pedigree
It’s hard to see any team defeating Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors given that they’re deep, strong, and well-coached.
After enduring a shocking loss against Gangwon FC in the last time out, Jose Morais went back to the drawing board and regrouped his men – which was rewarded by an emphatic victory on the road versus FC Seoul.
The game went back and forth in the first half. Han Kyo-won kickstarted the scoring after rebounding a Lee Dong-gook strike that missed, but Park Chu-young answered right back with a goal of his own on the stroke of half time.
All hell broke loose in the second half, however, in favour of the defending champions as Lee Seung-gi and Lee Dong-gook poured in two quick goals in just a span of eight minutes. With 15 minutes left in the match, Lee Dong-gook capped off their spectacular night by completing his brace.
While team manager Jose Morais turned to his veterans versus FC Seoul, he has the luxury of inserting some intriguing young pieces that can contribute when called upon.
22-year-old Cho Kyu-sung is a striker who is good with the ball and light on his feet, while Takahiro Kunimoto and Murilo offer considerable upside in the midfield.
For this Sunday’s match, they will be missing the services of veteran defender Hong Jeong-ho because of his two-game ban, while Jose Morais will serve the final game of his suspension.
But even without them, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors are still in great position to win given they’re loaded on all fronts.
Incheon missing its key players
There are two problems that continue to haunt Incheon in their ongoing campaign.
One is that they have yet to be on target, and two, they continue to miss the services of their best players.
Stefan Mugosa, who was their leading scorer last season with 14 goals, is still searching for his footing because of his poor fitness and form.
Other pieces such as Lanre Kenhinde, Rashid Mahazi, and Gordan Bunoza are also expected to be out as they deal with their injury woes of their own.
So far the only bright spot for this team is Kim Ho-nam, who has scored the team’s only goals this season.
But of course he would need a ton of help from his other teammates should they plan on springing an upset versus the defending champions.
History
As expected, the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors have the upper hand in terms of their overall head-to-heads against Incheon United.
They played against each other 30 times so far with Jeonbuk winning in 14, while Incheon won only five times along with 11 draws.
Goals are normally expected when these two face off as both combine to average 2.7 goals per contest. But in their last two recent encounters, they’ve only scored once.
The last time these two met in June 2019, they were involved in a tight affair and they ended up in a goalless draw.
