Detroit Pistons 128-103 Atlanta Hawks
The Detroit Pistons used a strong first half performance in order to rout the Atlanta Hawks in their home floor. They’ve managed to tally 76 points in the first two quarters that gave them the sizeable advantage.
The Pistons waxed hot from distance by shooting 17-of-34 (50-per cent). Even if he didn’t make one of his own, Andre Drummond led the way with a 23-point, 15-rebound double-double.
Trae Young went ice cold as he only tallied nine points while committing five turnovers. He struggled from the field by shooting only 25-per cent from the field.
Washington Wizards 125-118 Charlotte Hornets
The Washington Wizards overcame a 13-point deficit in the fourth period to upend the Charlotte Hornets.
While Bradley Beal topscored by contributing 30, it was the duo of Davis Bertans and Jordan McCrae who sparked the fourth quarter charge. They scored 20 and 13 off the bench.
Miles Bridges scored a career-high 31 points for the Hornets, who have lost their third in a row.
Brooklyn Nets 116-97 Sacramento Kings
Still without the services of Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets were able to win over the Sacramento Kings winning their second straight.
Spencer Dinwiddie and Joe Harris stepped up to the challenge by scoring 23 and 22, while Garrett Temple notched 18 points.
After leading by only three in the first period, the Nets used a 17-8 run in the second period to build a double-digit lead at 43-31. The Kings tried to mount a comeback late, but the Nets were simply too much for the road team.
Philadelphia 76ers 115-104 San Antonio Spurs
Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid unloaded 26 and 21 points to help the Sixers beat the Spurs, handing them their eighth consecutive loss. The skid is the Spurs’ worst under the Gregg Popovich era.
San Antonio trailed most of the way but they were able to cut the deficit to one late in the third quarter before Philly pulled away in the succeeding quarter.
Ben Simmons, Furkan Korkmaz, and Tobias Harris converted on some back-breaking baskets that sealed the deal for the home team.
Miami Heat 116-108 Chicago Bulls
All the Heat needed was a brilliant first quarter in order to dispatch the Bulls for their fifth straight victory. Miami outscored Chicago 34-16 in order to build a seemingly insurmountable lead.
But a 41-point fourth quarter almost spoiled it for the Heat, which left Jimmy Butler unsatisfied.
“[That] just can’t happen if we want to be as good as we want to be,” said Butler.
The former Chicago Bull poured in 27 points while Bam Adebayo notched 16 points and 14 rebounds for Miami.
Los Angeles Lakers 130-127 Oklahoma City Thunder
The Lakers banked on Anthony Davis’ all-around performance to score their second straight victory against the Thunder three days later.
Davis, who was implored to not hesitate in shooting from distance by head coach Frank Vogel, knocked down four threes while grabbing 11 rebounds.
He and LeBron James combined for 56 points while dishing out 21 of the team’s 32 assists, plus some noteworthy NBA 2019 highlights.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 24 points and Steven Adams tallied 22 for OKC, who have lost five of six.
Dallas Mavericks 143-101 Cleveland Cavaliers
Dallas are currently on a roll now as they’ve scored their second consecutive 40+point victory by drubbing Cleveland on their home floor.
Luka Doncic was his usual self by pouring in 30 points and 14 assists. This game marks his third straight game where notched 30+ points for the Mavericks since Dirk Nowitzki in 2010.
Darius Garland led the way with 23 points for Cleveland, who suffered their sixth straight defeat.
Denver Nuggets 96-92 Boston Celtics
Jamal Murray sank some crucial free throws that helped the Nuggets hold on against the gritty Celtics who lost Kemba Walker after suffering a head injury.
The diminutive guard collided with Semi Ojeleye late in the second period, and he was carted off due to the incident.
Boston, who were trailing by 13 in the final quarter, mounted a 10-1 blast to offer some resistance with 5:35 to play. However, crucial plays by Jamal Murray and Paul Millsap helped the Nuggets fend off a furious rally by the Celtics.
Jaylen Brown tallied a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Jayson Tatum scored 16 points for Boston.
Utah Jazz 113-109 Golden State Warriors
The Warriors weren’t favoured in our NBA 2019 odds in this game against the Jazz, but they were able to make it interesting up until the final moments.
Golden State rallied from a 21-point deficit with back-to-back buckets from Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson with 22.8 seconds left. Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley each hit a free throw in the final seconds to secure the victory for the home team.
The Warriors were down to eight available players, with guys like Draymond Green, Steph Curry, D’Angelo Russell, and Klay Thompson out due to injuries.
Donovan Mitchell topscored for Utah with 30 points, while Alec Burks tallied 20 of his own for Golden State.
Los Angeles Clippers 122-119 Houston Rockets
The Clippers paraded their deadly duo once more and they snapped the Rockets’ eight-game winning streak in Staples Center.
Kawhi Leonard hit the game-winning jumper with 15 seconds remaining and he finished with a team-high 24 points. Russell Westbrook missed an attempt on the other hand and Paul George made both free throws to ice the game.
James Harden still can’t stop his scoring ways by having 37 points and 12 assists. He was backstopped by Russell Westbrook who added 22 points.
