Newcastle United vs Manchester United
This used to be a high-profile match in the Premier League, which is why it’s disappointing to see two of these squads continuously underwhelm in their respective campaigns so far.
The Red Devils are currently on a rebuild it seems under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, while Newcastle are just being their mediocre selves as usual.
Both of these clubs are desperate to stop the bleeding given their recent performances and they will duke it out at the St. James Park on Sunday at the league’s eighth match day.
Can Manchester United cure their ills by winning in this match? Or will Newcastle somehow pull off a miracle and grab a victory?
As always, SBOBET is here to provide you some talking points ahead on this match.
Talking points
Red Devils’ continuous rebuild
The Red Devils are back on the road as they try to find a breakthrough after a putrid start of the season by their usual standards. Seven games later, they now sit at the 10th spot at the table with only nine points.
They recently lost against West Ham after failing to score at all and they averted further embarrassment with drawn results against Rochdale and Arsenal.
Paul Pogba, who was signed back in 2016 for a world-record fee, has not performed up to standards and his recent injuries don’t help either. But it seems that he’s getting along well with OGS and that may be a good consolation for now.
Even if the Red Devils haven’t produced some of the best Premier League 2019 highlights for this season, it’s safe to say that there is still a glimmer of optimism for the fans over at Old Trafford under the leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The optimism comes from the inspiring performances from their young turks. For starters, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James are joint top-scorers for Man Utd with three goals each and have shown great poise as if they’re the team’s veterans already. On the other hand, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial have both scored twice already.
It also helped when OGS managed to keep David De Gea for an extended period. His lucrative contract is expected to last at least until 2023 with a player option in the last year. The Spaniard goal keeper has made 367 appearances for United and he has been with the club since 2011.
As an effort to try and get back to the top-six, United have reportedly lined up four potential signings to be made in the next two transfer windows to try and get a fullback, midfielder, forward, and a striker.
To be specific, United’s wishlist includes the likes of James Maddison and Ben Chilwell from Leicester City, West Ham’s Declan Rice, and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
That’s quite a lofty goal for Solskjaer and if they somehow pull this off, fans over at the Old Trafford are going to be in for a huge treat.
Drama as usual for Newcastle
Well, what do you know? Another day, another letdown from the Magpies, and that has been the theme for them this season as they slid further to the 19th spot at the table.
Newcastle may have found some hope temporarily after defeating Tottenham earlier this season, but all that’s changed now as pressure mounts on Steve Bruce especially after they were pummeled by Leicester City in their previous fixture.
The Magpies’ defence was so bad in that game that even their goal keeper Martin Dubravka criticised Steve Bruce’s decision to put four at the back instead of five given that defenders Jetro Willems and Matt Richie were injured.
For the most part, Bruce uses a 5-2-2-1 formation to prevent their opponents to light up the tally. However, that didn’t work as Leicester managed to pour in five goals – and a clean sheet at that. With fewer men at the backline, the Foxes pounced on the opportunity and pressed the Magpies to submission.
“The coach decided to play four at the back and we needed to adapt. We were trying our best, but I have to say it didn’t work,” said Dubravka.
“We didn’t even deserve to take even a point so I agree with all my teammates that it was just embarrassing,” he lamented.
The Magpies’ Premier League 2019 odds for relegation are getting higher by the day and I wouldn’t be surprised if fans over at St. James Park might want Bruce’s head on a silver platter.
History
Overall, Manchester United and Newcastle have met in 167 encounters where the former has won in 86, the latter winning in 42, along with 39 draws.
The Red Devils have dominated the Magpies over these past few years as they’ve won eight of their last nine matches.
Betting Tip
Newcastle United vs Manchester United | Manchester United 1×2 @1.92 | |
October 6, 23:30 (GMT+8) |
If their current placing on the table is any indication, it is right to put Manchester United at 1.89 and Newcastle at 4.20 at the 1×2 market. Chances for a draw are pegged at 3.30.
For United, I guess nothing cures your ills better than facing a horrible team in Newcastle. They may not score more than two goals on this one, but I expect for them to post a clean sheet against their opponents’ hapless defence.
A safe bet is a 1-0 final tally on this one in favor of the road team.
