Bundesliga: Bayern, Leipzig Battle at the Top!

RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich

Two of the top teams in the Bundesliga are set to clash in what will be a match of epic proportions.

RB Leipzig are set to host the defending champions, Bayern Munich, at the Red Bull Arena on the weekend.

Both of these top-tier clubs are looking to sustain their undefeated starts to the season and to earn some bragging rights as well with this budding rivalry.

It’s no secret that Bayern Munich have been dominant in German football for quite some time, and they don’t look to stop now as they are gunning for their eighth consecutive title.

But Leipzig are not too shabby themselves, as SBOBET fans have witnessed their meteoric rise from the lower divisions to top-flight status over these past few years. And they will look to try and surpass their third-place finish last season.

Who will emerge victorious in this fixture? Let’s take a look at these teams and find out.

Talking points

Julian Nagelsmann’s auspicious start

RB Leipzig are coming into this season with lofty expectations especially with Julian Nagelsmann at the helm. The 32-year-old coaching wunderkind is known for his innovative tactics and player management which would definitely bode well for their campaign.

The team has won their first three matches – Union Berlin in their season debut, Eintracht Frankfurt in their second, and Borussia Monchengladbach before heading into this term’s first international break.

Nagelsmann decided to put Marcel Sabitzer in a more attacking role alongside Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen, and the said combination has paid instant dividends by pouring in nine goals already.

Timo Werner has always been considered as one of Bundesliga’s top players, and he continues his splendid form by scoring in each of the team’s first two fixtures. Just imagine if the team gets more acquainted to Nagelsmann’s system, for sure Werner will reach for better heights soon.

Another aspect to look at the Red Bulls’ success is their defence. Last season, the club conceded only 29 goals – which was the league’s best. Anchored by the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Peter Gulacsi, Leipzig’s opponents are expected to have a hard time in scoring goals. However, their game against Bayern Munich will be their first real test.

Bayern Munich’s championship mettle

Bayern Munich have been the gold standard for the Bundesliga with their display of dominance and flair for the better part of the decade.

They pretty much still kept their core intact even with the likes of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery gone, as the Niko Kovac-mentored squad still has their alpha dog in none other than Robert Lewandowski.

Robert Lewandowski is still the designated person to lead the defending Bundesliga champions to victory

Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic are two new additions that should bolster their attack and for sure team manager Niko Kovac would like to use his shiny new toys even more.

Save for their lacklustre match against Hertha Berlin, the Bavarians’ previous two opponents in Schalke 04 and FSV Mainz 05 didn’t really provide much resistance. They posted a clean sheet against Schalke and they simply looked unstoppable against Mainz with a 6-1 triumph.

Of course, what do you expect? Bayern will always be Bayern. They are the champions for a reason and it’s just a matter of time where they’ll round into their usual otherworldly form. Basically, the championship is theirs to lose.

History

All in all, these two German clubs have faced each other just eight times total, with the Bavarians winning five and the Red Bulls winning only once. There have been two draws between them.

RB Leipzig have done a decent job against Bayern over these past few years. In the DFB-Pokal, they battled it out for an intense 0-0 draw but Bayern followed it up in their finals matchup with a 3-0 tally.

The Red Bulls’ last victory against Die Roten was a 2-1 win from two seasons ago.

Betting tip

??
RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich Bayern Munich Asian Handicap -0.25 @ 1.67
September 15, 00:30 (GMT+8)

For this game, the road team is at 1.87 odds to win, while RB Leipzig will be at the 3.85 in the 1×2 market. Per Bundesliga 2019 odds, the possibility for a draw in this fixture is placed at 3.30.

This mouth-watering match is expected to produce some of the best Bundesliga 2019 highlights, and it’s really hard to predict on who’s going to win this one.

But I may have to lean on to Bayern Munich here since they’re the team to beat and they dominated their head-to-head against RB Leipzig. Nonetheless, this will be a testy affair that could go either way.

My bet here is a 2-1 victory for the road team.
