After an impressive start, the Foxes are up in third place and three points ahead of eighth-placed Manchester United, and at this moment in time, there’s not a lot to pick between the two. Both have bucket loads of talent in their squads, and in that Manchester United may have the slight edge, as well as home advantage. In Brendan Rodgers, Leicester City has a head coach with a mission. He almost worked magic in his last Premier League stint as a manager, but his Liverpool side slipped up at the final hurdle. And now he has the Foxes playing with style and real intent.

Give Ole time
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the fifth manager to step into the Old Trafford manager’s office since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, and the ‘post-Fergie’ transition period is taking a lot longer than the die-hard Red Devils fans would want. Following the risky appointment of David Moyes the owners have looked for quick fixes with big hitters Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho taking the reigns and spending big.
But the football hasn’t always been easy on the eye and while Manchester City and Liverpool move to stratospheric levels, United won’t catch up any time soon. The club must rebuild properly and OGS needs at least two full seasons to do that. There will be questions whether he is up to it. Failing to beat ten-man Southampton last time out has increased the pressure on the Red Devils and, in today’s world of ‘win or go’, owners would shudder at that kind of result.
But if OGS can rediscover the spirit he inspired on his arrival last season, and recruit well then he has a chance. The signing of Daniel James from Swansea looks like a masterstroke. Eyebrows were raised when United shopped in the Championship but the Welsh winger already has three goals and looks very much at home. And if the manager can get the best out of his talisman and enigma, Paul Pogba, then that will take him a long way. The World Cup winner missed a penalty against Wolves, which cost the Red Devils a win in that game, and he spent most of the summer courting interest from Real Madrid, but OGS is still trying to find a way of getting consistency from his French star.
Maguire faces old friends
Red Devils centre back Harry Maguire is the man who will take most of the Manchester United vs Leicester City news columns in the run up to the game following his record £80m transfer from Leicester to Old Trafford.
In two seasons at the King Power Stadium Maguire made 69 appearances, scoring five goals, and made his breakthrough on the international stage, impressing at both ends of the pitch in England’s campaign at Russia 2018. Questions will be asked if United finishes below Leicester City this season, and I suspect Red Devils fan Maguire will be right up for this game.
Foxes top six aspirations
The appointment of Brendan Rodgers, after a rather dull period under Claude Puel, has lifted the spirits in Leicester, and rekindled hopes of a return to European football. The Foxes young players responded immediately to his appointment, winning five of his first six games and have started this season in fine form.
Midfield star James Maddison is the most creative in the team, but Youri Tielemens could turn out to be one of the signings of the summer, having helped Belgium destroy Scotland a week after he scored in Leicester’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
And don’t forget the arch poacher, Jamie Vardy. He may have turned 32 in January but he hasn’t lost any of his pace, or his eye for goal, grabbing another brace against the Cherries.
History
Manchester United has a solid record against the Foxes, particularly at Old Trafford where they are unbeaten in the last 11 encounters.
But recent form favours the visitors who are unbeaten in 11 games and have won the last three, while Manchester United is without a win in three.
