Serie A: What a Chance for Inter!

Inter Milan vs Juventus

We have another classic game at the top of Serie A this weekend when Juventus travels to Milan to face Inter in the Derby d’Italia.

As all SBOBET football fans know, the sight of the Old Lady, Scudetto winner for the eighth successive season, strikes fear across the league. But this week’s Inter Milan vs Juventus odds tell a slightly different tale.

Luciano Spalletti’s Inter are favourites to win on Saturday, but that is all about motivation, as Juve arrives in Milan with the league title in the bag and with no other unfinished business, out of the major cups and maybe even heading for the beach. Don’t expect Max Allegri’s men to rollover though; that would be sacrilege for the Bianconeri, but Inter has so much more at stake.

This is a huge game for the Nerazzurri, sitting third in the Serie A league table and with a five point cushion to Milan in fifth, but with Atalanta and Roma also in the hunt, a loss at the San Siro could bring the chasing pack much closer.

There’s always pride to play for and intense rivalry in one of Italy’s most famous old fixtures, but for Inter, it’s all about staying safe in that third place.

Talking Points

Mauro’s time to shine

With ten goals to his name you could say Argentine striker Mauro Icardi has had a relatively quiet season, but that isn’t the whole story…by some way! Icardi has been surrounded by controversy, much of it the making of his wife and agent Wanda Nara, who’s contract negotiations resulted in him being stripped of the captaincy in February.

It has been more like a soap opera than Serie A 2019 news at times in Milan, but things have settled, just in time for the business end of the season. Icardi has been welcomed back into the fold and started from the bench in a crucial 1-1 draw with Roma last week. But I expect him to start against Juventus, ahead of Lautaro Martinez, with the stakes so high.

Alongside players with the quality of Ivan Perisic and Radja Nainggolan the striker would have plenty of ammunition, and I think Inter will be on the attack for much of this contest.

Perisic has been productive, scoring seven goals and having four assists and he could be another key man in Inter’s search for goals.

Bianconeri has nothing to lose

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri celebrates winning the league after the match

A surprise quarter final exit from the Champions League at the hands of a resurgent Ajax team has left the Bianconeri with a rather lighter schedule than they’d hoped for. They won their eighth successive Scudetto last week with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina which took them 20 points clear of Napoli.

The only incentive remaining is Allegri’s team is to match the record 102 point haul achieved by Juventus under Antonio Conte. Five wins from five will do it, but will that be enough motivation for the visitors?

Well, already out of the Coppa Italia, Allegri can afford to field his strongest available team, and that means Cristiano Ronaldo can continue his fight to become the Serie A top scorer in his first season in Italy. He’s currently on 19, three behind Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella, but Ronny can score three in a half, so there’s plenty of time to go.

But Juve does have a few injuries with Giorgio Chiellini and Mario Mandzukic out, and another striker Paulo Dybala doubtful.

History

Juve has won 26 of the 58 Derby d’Italias since 1993; with Inter winning 13, and 19 have been drawn.

The Bianconeri won the return match 1-0 earlier in the season and has an impressive away record, winning 13, drawing one and losing two. But Inter arrives in good form, with eight points from four games and a realistic chance of beating the 32 times Serie A winners.

Betting Tip

??
Inter Milan vs Juventus 2-3 goals @ 1.90
April 28, 02:30 (GMT+8)

Inter is the team which needs to win this game and will start as favourites against the champions, at odds of 2.41 while the Bianconeri is at 3.00 and the draw is 3.10.

The Derby d’Italia is one of the big fixtures in the Italian sporting calendar and this one is sure to live up to expectations, not least because a normally cagey affair is likely to be a more open match, Juve playing with freedom while Inter attacks with intensity.

I suspect the Nerazzurri may just win it by the odd goal in three, but with a decent case for both sides, and with Juve’s undoubted class I think it’s safer to predict two or three goals!
